AB de Villiers Pulls Out of Big Bash League 2019-20

Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers has pulled himself back from his earlier interest of playing in the upcoming Big Bash League 2019-20. Meanwhile, there were reports that many BBL franchises have expressed their interest in roping in the star batsman with clubs from Sydney and Brisbane Heats leading the race. This will be a massive blow to Cricket Australia who as they look to satisfy the broadcasters by roping in marquee cricketers. Last week, there were debates that de Villiers can earn as many as A$350,000.

De Villiers to play in BBL?

The news comes as Cricket Australia announced each BBL club can now sign up to six overseas players during the season. This is an increase from four, in the hope that it will lure more international stars to the competition. However, the clubs can still name a maximum of two overseas players on their 18-player roster at any one time.

Last month, AB de Villiers management had indicated the franchises that the star cricketer will be available for the BBL for a small stretch. The former Proteas skipper will be available towards its concluding stages in late January and early February after his commitments in the Bangladesh Premier League. However, after understanding the motive of Cricket Australia and BBL, de Villiers has initiated his unwillingness to take part in the franchise-based T20 league.

Meanwhile, there are rumours going around that AB de Villiers can still make a U-turn and change his decision for his desire to play in Australia next summer. But as of now, de Villiers will not be signing with any of the franchises which will be a massive setback for the summer. AB de Villiers has been in good form in the recent IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore although his team finished in the bottom of the points table.
