Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) succumbed to a 59-run defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2020 contest on Monday. Asked to bat, Delhi Capitals put up a total of 196/4 on board in the stipulated 20 overs. But RCB were restricted to 137/9 in the chase with captain Virat Kohli top-scoring for his side.

Kohli scored 43 runs off 39 deliveries. His innings was laced with two boundaries and one hit over the fence. Apart from Kohli, all the other RCB players failed to help the cause as they registered their second loss of the season. South African great AB de Villiers, who scored 9 runs in the match, admitted the shortcomings for the side.

RCB did not bat too well, just a bad day at office: AB de Villiers

De Villiers feels that the total of 196 runs posted by Delhi Capitals was over par and credited the side for the performance. He also mentioned that RCB fell slow to adapt with defensive bowling approach and leaked 20 runs in excess. The former South Africa captain also mentioned that RCB did not bat well and it was a bad day at office.

“Yeah, I felt 196 was definitely over par. You must give credit to Delhi Capitals, they started really well in the first six overs, we did well to pull it back. I think we were really slow to adapt with our defensive bowling, it was one of those wickets were you needed to utilise the conditions, bowl it into the deck to get some purchase out of it and unfortunately, we leaked 20 more runs above par,” de Villiers said in the post-match press conference.

“I think Delhi batted well, as I said we pulled it back nicely and we had a chance to put pressure on them, we just did not execute really well, we did not utilise the conditions as we could have, it was one of those days where we did not get our skills right, we dropped a few catches, there were few fumbles in the field as well and it ultimately cost us 20-30 runs which could have been a different story in the second department, but we did not bat well too, so just a bad day at the office,” he added.

The Bangalore franchise have started the IPL 2020 season on a positive note as they have clinched victories in three out of five matches to be placed on the third spot in the table
