Former India Fast Bowler Abey Kuruvilla In Contention To Join The Selection Panel

Former Indian fast bowler Ajit Agarkar has got a rivalry in the form of Abey Kuruvilla to book one of the three spots in the Indian men’s cricket selection panel. Abey Kuruvilla, who briefly played for India, has come into the reckoning, throwing his hat in the ring. The former Indian paceman featured in 25 ODIs and ten Tests back in 1997.
Both Ajit Agarkar and Abey Kuruvilla played plenty of cricket for Mumbai and India and are contenders to replace Jatin Paranjape, who held the West Zone selector’s position. Nevertheless, Ajit Agarkar is way ahead in terms of international experience, starring in 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and four T20Is. Agarkar is also the third-highest wicket-taker for India in ODIs with 288 victims under his belt.
The Madan Lal-led advisory committee will choose the selection panel, which also comprises of RP Singh and Sulakshana Naik. The committee had earlier selected Sunil Joshi for the South Zone and Harvinder Singh for Central Zone for the five-member selection council. The duo made their debuts in their aspect, choosing the squad for India’s team for the Australian tour. The likes of Maninder Singh, Chetan Sharma (North Zone), and Shiv Sundar Das (East Zone) have also applied for the selectors’ position.
Abey Kuruvilla’s experience as a selector:
Meanwhile, 52-year old Abey Kuruvilla has a handy record in serving as a selection panel. Kuruvilla was in the junior selection panel from 2008-2012, spearheading it when India lifted the U-19 World Cup in 2012. The same year he also became the chief selector for Mumbai. The Kerala-born paceman played first-class cricket from 1990-2000 and List A from 1991-2002.
