Fast bowler Abhimanyu Mithun managed to grab the eyeballs of the selectors as he finds his place in 2018 edition of Duleep Trophy. So, due to his selection, he has to sacrifice his plans to feature in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL).

Mithun will not take part in the forthcoming season of KPL. He was the most expensive player of the season in KPL 2018 while bagging INR 8.3 lakh.

Selection in Duleep Trophy:

In the recently announced squads for Duleep Trophy, Mithun finds his name in India Red Team.

Mithun was bought by KPL franchise Shivammoga Lions (SL) who now has to look for his replacement before the tournament kicks off. KPL is scheduled to begin from August 15.

His selection in the Duleep Trophy means that Lions has only three weeks now to look for his replacement.

Highest bid in KPL history:

In the bid that took place on Saturday (July 21), the tall pacer was the first player in KPL history to attract a bid of more than eight lakh.

The Indian pacer had previously featured for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the last season of KPL, he was playing for Bijapur Bulls (BB).

An official spokesperson of KSCA on Mithun:

The official spokesperson of KSCA Vinay Mruthyunjaya while interacting with media said,

“A. Mithun has been selected to represent India Red team for the Duleep Trophy tournament which is to begin between August 17th to 29th, 2018,” he added.

“Hence, Mithun, who attracted the highest bid at the Karnataka Premier League Player auction on Saturday, will be unavailable for the KPL season VII. Shivamogga Lions will be allowed to seek a replacement,” he concluded.

Abhimanyu Mithun received a lot of attraction from the franchises which led to a fierce bidding war following his performance in the last year. Eventually, it paved a way for his selection in the Duleep Trophy.

Apart from taking wickets, he scored a crucial 12-ball 32 that eventually helped Bulls to play in finals.
