One of the major highlights of his career is to receive a call-up to represent the Indian National Cricket Team. The left-handed batsman and seam bowler, Nayar played three ODIs for India under Dhoni’s leadership in 2009. Unfortunately, he failed to make big and never returned again.

Since July last year, Nayar has been the lead coach and mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders academy in Bengaluru. From this season though, he has been named as the assistant coach of the side, with former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum being the head coach.
For the last few years, he has mentored quite a few international players like Dinesh Karthik and Shreyas Iyer. All the players have given high praises to the Mumbai star for his work ethic.
