Mumbai who has lifted the Ranji Trophy on 41 occasions was knocked out f the tournament after losing their Quarter-final tie against Karnataka. The finalists from the previous season were unable to deal with early jolts they received at the hands of Karnataka skipper R Vinay Kumar who ran through the Mumbai batting order in the 1st innings. The Karnataka skipper’s spell also included a hat-trick which never allowed Mumbai to force their way back into the match.

Following their premature exit from the tournament, veteran Mumbai all-rounder Abhishek Nayar posted a tweet which goes on to prove not all is well in the Mumbai dressing room. He directly took a dig at Mumbai coach Sameer Dighe. Nayar who has been a prolific player for Mumbai over the years with both bat and the ball was earlier dropped from the side before their last and most important match against Tripura. However, chief selector of Mumbai, Ajit Agarkar revealed that the decision of axing the all-rounder was because of his poor form.

Mumbai went on to register a victory against Tripura and made it to the knockouts, but Nayar as yet again ignored from the side for the Quarter-final clash against Karnataka. If he had played in the match, it would have been Nayar’s 100 first class encounter. Vinay Kumar was the wrecker-in-chief as far as Karnataka were concerned as Mumbai dearly missed the services of Shreyas Iyer who is currently with the Indian team.

Vinay’s sensational spell helped Karnataka skittle out Mumbai for a mere 183 runs in the 1st innings. In reply, Karnataka posted a gigantic 570 runs on the board. There was no back for Mumbai from there on as they succumbed to a huge defeat by an innings and 20 runs.

Following Mumbai’s defeat, Nayar commented that there is someone in the Mumbai camp who doesn’t want the team to be happy and united. “Every time a team wins u hear words like teamwork, unity, preparation, bonding, family, What if you have some1 at the helm who doesn’t want any of it just wants to destroy something good,” Nayar wrote.
