After Being Sacked As Pakistan Captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed To Lose Test Spot For Australia Tour: Report

After being sacked as Pakistan’s Test and T20I captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed is also in danger of losing his spot in the Test squad. As per a report inbrecoder.com, the 32-year-old could lose his Test spot for the tour of Australia. Mohammad Rizwan and Adnan Akmal are two players who are in consideration to replace Sarfaraz.

24-year-old Rizwan has played one Test match which came against New Zealand in Hamilton in 2016. In the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the right-handed batsman has scored two centuries. He has 323 runs from three innings at an average of 161.50.

Adanan, one of the three Akmal brothers, is an experienced campaigner and has played 21 Tests between 2010 to 2014. He has scored 240 runs from four innings in the ongoing first-class tournament.

Pakistan Cricket Board will be naming the squads for the tour of Australia soon and it remains to be seen if Sarfaraz manages to keep his spot in the two formats or not.

A couple of hours back, PCB had confirmed his sacking as captain from Tests and T20Is. A call on ODI format wasn’t taken as Men in Green play their next ODI series in July 2020.

Sarfaraz had taken over as Test captain in 2017 after Misbah-ul-Haq retired from international cricket. In his first series, Pakistan suffered a 0-2 defeat against Sr Lanka at home. In one-match series against debutant Ireland, Pakistan defeated the hosts and later managed to draw 1-1 against England.

In the 2018/19 home season, Pakistan defeated Australia 1-0 but lost to New Zealand 1-2. A whitewash against South Africa in South Africa followed, which further went against Sarfaraz.

Right after the World Cup 2019, where Pakistan failed to make it to the semi-final, there were reports that PCB would take a call on the captaincy and after a whitewash in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Sarfaraz was dropped as captain and he now stares at losing his Test spot as well.

In total, Sarfaraz led Pakistan in 13 Tests out of which they won four and lost eight Tests. One Test against Australia was a drawn affair.

Pakistan kick off a tour to Australia with three T20Is from November 3 to 8. The two-match Test series will start on November 21. Prior to Tests, Pakistan will also play two practice matches.
