World Cup hosts England continue to be bogged down by injuries. In the latest setback, their skipper Eoin Morgan hobbled off the field during their World Cup clash against West Indies in Southampton. During the same innings, Jason Roy had to walk out of the field too after he pulled up earlier in the dat. Roy was subsequently diagnosed with a left hamstring strain.

Later, the England management issued an update saying the opener would not open the innings. The earlier he would not be allowed to bat above number seven. And just moments later, Morgan had to leave the field too. Having reduced 202 for 6 in the 40th over, England were well in control when Morgan suffered the injury which appeared to be a back spasm.

Morgan pulled up quickly as he ran towards the wicket at the non-striker’s end in an effort to back up a potential throw from the deep. The England star looked in a fair amount of discomfort as he left the field unassisted although very slowly.

“Eoin Morgan’s injury looked worse than Jason Roy’s. ‘Roy was able to walk off and up the stairs and Morgan was really struggling. He’s not one to moan either,” former England captain, Alastair Cook, told BBC Test Match Special.

England, meanwhile, are looking set to register their third win of the competition. Having already defeated South Africa and Bangladesh, England have bowled out West Indies for a paltry 212. Chris Woakes gave the hosts a solid start by castling Evin Lewis for just 2 and there was no looking back after that.

England struck at regular intervals which did not give West Indies’ innings any impetus. Nicholas Pooran top-scored for West Indies, scoring 63. For England, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood impressed with the ball, picking up three wickets each.
