The Indian cricket team, monitored and regulated by the BCCI is arguably the wealthiest board of the lot. Hence, the companies who sponsor their kits receive plenty of recognition. After a lengthy hiatus from Indian cricket, the world’s second-largest sportswear maker Adidas has reared his head for the kit sponsorship. Adidas has also made a bid for the official merchandising partner rights.

According to trusted sources of Times of India, the move has come as Adidas’ rival, Nike’s contract with the BCCI will expire soon enough. The source also claimed that another giant in Puma is also keen to gain sponsorship rights as the BCCI has reduced the base price to INR 61 lakh per game, down from 30% from the earlier 88 lakh. The BCCI had a contract with Nike earlier for INR 88 lakh.

While Virat Kohli, who is undoubtedly one of the most prominent figures in world cricket, is a brand ambassador for INR 100 crore, Adidas does not boast the same reputation. It has a comparatively negligible presence having dished out expensive player endorsements earlier.

In fact, Nike has scaled down too, having its operations in India diminish due to their global restructuring. The BCCI has also received interests from companies other than sporting sectors such as Byju’s. Byju’s could also likely be the sponsors for the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
