Amazing Game And A Great Win, Says Virat Kohli As He And His Teammates Celebrate Win On Social Media
Team India players did not take long to express their delight on social media after thrashing England by 203 runs in the third England vs India Test at Trent Bridge.
Having been frustrated by Adil Rashid and James Anderson late on day four, India did not waste much time on day five to wrap up the game. Ravichandran Ashwin??outfoxed Anderson as the England pacer could only loop up to Ajinkya Rahane at slip. England were thus all out for 317 while chasing an improbable 521. Interestingly, it was the only one of the 20 English wickets that did not fall to a pacer.
The fate of the game was pretty much sealed on day four when Bumrah ran through England’s lower-middle order. With the new ball in hand, he ended the 169-run stand between Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes by dismissing the former for 106. On the very next delivery, he accounted for Jonny Bairstow to all but put the game to bed. He then went on to dismiss Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad to complete his second five-wicket haul in four Tests.
England’s tail frustrated the visitors for a while before Ashwin wrapped up the innings early on day five. Prior to that, India’s batsmen and bowlers outplayed their opposition in all departments. In the first innings, they scored 329 with captain Kohli’s 97 and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane’s 81 leading the way. In reply, England were all out for 161 with Hardik Pandya picking up 5 for 28.
In the second essay, the visitors rode on Kohli’s second century of the series to post 352 for 7 (declared). Cheteshwar Pujara and Hardik Pandya also scored fine fifties.
The triumph at Trent Bridge??halves England lead in the series to 2-1 with two matches to play, at the Ageas Bowl and The Oval. With momentum on their side, Kohli’s side will now be aiming to become just the second team – and the first since Australia in the 1936/37 Ashes – to win a five-match series from 2-0 down.
Meanwhile, as soon as the game finished, the delighted players took to social media to celebrate the win. Captain Kohli led the proceedings again by lauding his teammates.
