Former India batsman Ambati Rayudu has hinted at making a comeback in white-ball cricket. Ambati Rayudu had sensationally announced his retirement from international cricket while the World Cup was underway in England. The right-handed batsman was looking set to be India’s number four at the World Cup.

However, the selectors dropped a big surprise by choosing an inexperienced Vijay Shankar ahead of Rayudu. He did have a poor home series against Australia but overall he had done reasonably well since returning to the team last year. He performed well in the Asia Cup before scoring a century against West Indies at home. His 90-run knock in the testing conditions of New Zealand still remains one of the best knocks played by the Indians this year.

And as if that snub was not enough, the selectors did not even name him in the squad after India lost two players due to injury. Instead, the MSK Prasad-led panel picked Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal to replace Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar respectively. What was even more baffling that Rayudu was in the standby list while uncapped Agarwal was nowhere in contention for the World Cup spot. Rayudu finally decided to announce his retirement from international cricket after the spate of setbacks.

Rayudu is currently busy playing in the TNCA one-day league for the V.A. Parthasarathy trophy. He is representing Grand Slam in the tournament. While speaking to Sportstar, the 33-year-old confirmed that he is obviously open to the idea of playing for India and in the Indian Premier League (IPL) again.

“I would like to bring to your kind notice that I have come to decision to step away from the sport and retire from all forms and levels of the game. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the BCCI and all the State Associations that I have represented which include Hyderabad, Baroda, Andhra and Vidharbha,” Rayudu had written in his retirement letter.

He had also thanked all the Indian captains he played under during his career and mentioned Virat Kohli’s name especially for showing great belief in his abilities.
