India finished their campaign in the Blind Cricket World Cup on a perfect note, defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by two wickets on Saturday (January 20) in Sharjah to lift the coveted title for the second time in a row.

Chasing a mammoth 309, India rode on Sunil Ramesh’s fine 93 and captain Ajay Reddy’s 63 to achieve the target with eight balls to spare. The Ajay Reddy-led side had started the chase on a solid note, racing away to 111 for 1. However, India were in danger of losing the game after Pakistan clawed their way back in the final stages by claiming three consecutive wickets. Pakistan were looking primed to avenge the loss they suffered four years ago. But, the pendulum swung in India’s way after a wide delivery rolled on to the boundary and the defending champions went on to defend the title with a thrilling win. Earlier, Pakistan had scored 308 for eight in their allotted  40 overs. For Pakistan, Badar Munir top scored with 57 while Riasat Khan and Nisar Ali chipped in with 48 and 47 runs respectively.

The win also helped India finish the tournament unbeaten and drew level with Pakistan’s World Cup tally after winning their second World Cup. India had also defeated Pakistan in the T20 Blind World Cup final last year to defend the title successfully.

Messages have been pouring in from all corners and Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan also congratulated the team for the monumental triumph.  The Bollywood superstar took to Twitter to congratulate the side, writing:

“Another victory for INDIA cricket ! India’s Blind Cricket Team beats Pakistan in Final and becomes WORLD Champions .. CONGRATULATIONS .. YOU HAVE MADE US ALL PROUD .. !!???”
