West Indies phenom Andre Russell is arguably one of the most skilled players when it comes to the Twenty20 format. Recently, he was on the receiving end of some much deserved praise from his compatriot Dwayne Bravo, who has likened Russell to fellow Caribbean greats Chris Gayle and Brian Lara.

Bravo’s kind words for the Jamaican all-rounder came after his starring performances in a two-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, thereby marking his return to cricket after having missed the World Cup 2019 through injury.

The Windies whitewashed Sri Lanka 2-0 courtesy of Russell’s brilliant contribution of 35 runs off 14 balls in the first game and 40 off 14 in the second.

He did just enough to win the ‘Player of the Series’ award, and hence, Bravo couldn’t help but liken the 31-year-old to fellow West Indies greats, Lara and Gayle.

Dwayne Bravo sings the praises of Andre Russell:

Dwayne Bravo was also part of the team when the Caribbean side beat Sri Lanka comfortably. In a chat with Trinidad-based radio station I955 FM on Friday, he lavished praise on his countryman.

“He’s the best in the world. It’s the same I used to say of Chris Gayle when Chris Gayle was in his prime – we are happy to have him representing us, we didn’t have to come up and bowl against him in an international match. It’s the same with Andre Russell,” said Bravo.

He continued, “Andre Russell now is our Chris Gayle, is our Brian Lara, in the T20 format. He is the superstar.”

Meanwhile, the T20I series versus Sri Lanka was Bravo’s second international outing after he came out of retirement earlier in January, for a home assignment against Ireland.

Prior to hanging up up his boots, the 36-year-old last played an international match back in 2016.
