Legendary England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has backed England’s opening bowlers, James Anderson and Stuart Broad after criticism of the pair’s recent performances.

Meanwhile, the duo struggled during Ashes and didn’t fare much better in the following series against New Zealand. Moreover, after England’s loss to Pakistan at Lord’s, Michale Vaughan openly criticised the duo. He even questioned their selection in the playing XI.

However, both Anderson and Broad stormed back to form at Headingley in the second Test. The pair claimed 11 wickets and displaying the resilience that has forged them into one of the greatest pairs of fast-bowlers England has ever seen.

The host banked on them to crawl back in the series after going 1-0 down. They defeated Pakistan by an innings and 55 runs to finish the series in a draw.

The all-rounder from Lancashire backed the veteran duo questioning how can someone be critical of them. He also reminded everybody of their records, who have done well over the years.

How can you be critical? Jimmy Anderson has got a lot of wickets, Stuart Broad has got a lot as well, and their recent record is alright too,” Flintoff said to Fox Sports.

The 40-year old Flintoff also admitted these two are the best in the business currently in England. He also stressed England would have to stick with them for upcoming few years.

They take a bit of criticism and they come back strong. It beggars belief, it really does. There are areas in which the side can improve but from the bowling department, those two are the best we have had so we have got to stick with them for a while longer,” he concluded.

England’s next assignment will be against Scotland and Australian in the white-ball cricket. They will play one ODI against Scotland before shifting their focus to the Aussies for a five-match ODI series.
