Sri Lanka captain, Dinesh Chandimal admits Angelo Mathews is the best batsman in the team after getting dropped from the squad for England ODIs. However, Sri Lanka will play the first game of the five-match ODI series at Dambulla on October 10 (Wednesday). The hosts will try to overcome their mistakes from the latest beating they suffered in Asia Cup 2018 and will try to put pressure on the visitors from the word go.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka failed to win any of the last nine bilateral series they had played. Also, they got bullied in the Asia Cup 2019 after back-to-back defeats at the hands of Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Angelo Mathews only managed to score 38 runs from the two matches that he has played in the UAE. He even didn’t get a chance to bowl a single over in the tournament.

Moreover, the selectors appointed Dinesh Chandimal as the captain of Sri Lanka and dropped Mathews for England ODI’s. They also stated Angelo is not fit for the tournament. Speaking on the eve of the series, Chandimal reveals Angelo Mathews is the best batsman for Sri Lanka, and moreover, he is more good in shorter formats.

“I hope he will identify what he needs to do to come back to the side and come back strongly. It is mainly his fitness.” Dinesh Chandimal said.

Furthermore, Dinesh Chandimal was earlier appointed as the captain of the Lankan ODI team as well, replacing Mathews. He is also the skipper of the Test side. Chandimal has also been a part of quite a few controversies in the past; the latest one coming in the Test series against the Windies after the umpires decided to change the ball after suspecting that Chandimal applied something on it.

However, the Lankans will play five ODIs, one T20I and three Tests against England. The first match is scheduled on October 10 (Wednesday) at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. The three-match Test series will take place in Galle, Pallekele, and Colombo respectively.
