Anil Kumble finally responded to the allegations of leaking team news which suggested the former India head coach had leaked one-on-one conversations with the Indian cricketers in a WhatsApp group comprising of journalists.

Controversies marred the last one month of Kumble’s spell with the team as his alleged feud with skipper Virat Kohli being one of them. But while the feud with Kohli became clear only after Kumble sensationally stepped down from his post just two days after guiding India to the final of the Champions Trophy, the allegations of leaking team news surfaced in the buildup to the tournament in England.

“We’ve been told that there is a WhatsApp group created by Kumble of his few trusted media friends and few confidential talks between him and senior players were leaked through that” an unnamed senior official of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was quoted as saying by “DNA” newspaper.

But while the bowling legend had made it clear why he resigned from his post, stating the Kohli’s reservation over his style of functioning made him took the decision, he did not react to the allegations of leaking team news. Well, Kumble finally reacted to those rumours on Saturday (December 16) at the Sports Writers Association of Bangalore (SWAB) annual awards ceremony in Bengaluru.

Kumble won the “Coach of the Year” honour at the ceremony and reacted on the rumour in his speech after receiving the award.
