Annisha Gupta Clarifies her Connection with Mithali Raj

The recent tweets by Annisha Gupta on Mithali Raj’s exclusion in the semifinal game have created enough stir in the cricketing world to reach it to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Meanwhile, Annisha had slammed captain, Harmanpreet Kaur for letting Mithali Raj sit out on the bench for the all-important clash at the ICC Women’s World T20, which proved costly for Indian women side.

Regarding the same, the respective board consulted Mithali Raj for her connection with Gupta. However, Gupta, herself quoted to Mid-Day all her opinions expressed on her Twitter Panel are her thoughts and nothing to do with Mithali Raj.

Gupta cited she is not the assistant of Mithali Raj but a freelance Sports Consultant. Furtherly, Gupta added she would bring some business deal to Mithali, something which she does for other female athletes as well.

“I don’t have any official designation for my work with Mithali. I am a freelancer and I have only brought her a few commercial deals and events. And, do this for other athletes as well and therefore. If any views are expressed by me, they’re in my personal capacity. And, not those of Mithali or in anyway endorsed by her,” Gupta told mid-day yesterday.

The Freelancer, in her earlier tweets, after the conclusion of India’s journey in World T20 in the Caribbean thrashed the Indian skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur for not including Mithali Raj in such a crucial match.

Speaking on that, she added ”I’d like to say that I don’t know what is going on on the inside but, now that the matches are being telecast. We can see who is performing and who is not,” Annisha has been quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo. And, we can see the kind of treatment that Mithali has received despite her brilliant performance and despite showing stability and consistency.”

All in all, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out. Meanwhile, the reports say Mithali Raj decided not to be the part of a T20I side anymore.
