Nepotism has become a much discussed topic ever since the unceremonious death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Twitter users are exposing nepotism and star kids are being targeted every now and then. The social media is also abuzz with various Boycott slogans, for actors who they think, were the cause behind the actor ending his life.

Cricket has not seen nepotism. It remains away from the reach of it and only performances matter in the sport. The sport has seen father-son pair playing the sport or cases like a successful father and son not being able to distance emerging. But it has never been the case that due to the legacy of father a son gets a chance in the team.

Arjun Tendulkar would be playing for India if nepotism existed in cricket: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra has made an honest opinion citing the examples of Arjun Tendulkar and Rohan Gavaskar, whose father were the greatest to have played the game. Chopra believes cricket is safe from the ill-effects of nepotism.

“If you see the bigger picture, Sunil Gavaskar’s son Rohan Gavaskar should have played many ODI and Test match for India because of his father’s name and fame but it wasn’t like that. Even when he played for India, he had performed really well for Bengal in Ranji cricket. In fact, Rohan Gavaskar did not get a place in Mumbai squad even after Gavaskar was added in front of his name, he had to play from Bengal,” Aakash Chopra said.

“Same is the case with Arjun Tendulkar, he isn’t getting freebies and no one is telling him that ‘You are Sachin Tendulkar’s son and so join the team immediately’. He is not getting any access to the Indian cricket team,” he added.

Arjun Tendulkar broke into the India U-19 side but still far from national team selection.
