Australia’s experienced batsman David Warner took a splendid catch to dismiss England’s skipper Joe Root. The right-hander was looking to run down the ball to the leg-side after dancing down the track to Nathan Lyon but only managed an inside which ricocheted on to his pads. The ball then went to the first slip area and Warner took a brilliant catch while diving to his left.

Consequently, Root was dismissed after making 77 runs. The visitors are once again on top as the hosts still another 183 runs to pull off a miraculous win. The tourists lead the ongoing Ashes series by 1-0 and if they go on to win the ongoing Headingley Test, they would retain the Urn.

It was a brilliant take.

Australia had scored 179 runs in the first innings after Joe Root won the toss and decided to bowl first. Jofra Archer was the pick of England’s bowler as the lanky pacer scalped his maiden five-wicket haul in the Test fold. David Warner was able to get back into form as he scored a vital knock of 61 runs. Marnus Labuschagne continued to impress as he scored 71 runs.

However, England came up with a horrible batting show as they were skittled out for a paltry score of 67 runs – which is their lowest in Ashes since 1948. Joe Denly was the solitary England batsman who was able to get to double digits.

Subsequently, Australia scored 246 runs in the second essay to post an imposing target of 359. England once again lost two early wickets but a hundred run partnership between Joe Root and Joe Denly kept them in the contest. Denly scored a fine knock of fifty before he had no answer to Josh Hazlewood’s accurate bouncer.

It is going to be a herculean task for England to get the remaining runs and keep breathing in the ongoing Ashes series.
