Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting lauded England for the tactics in the ongoing Day 2 of the first Test of the Ashes 2023 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. He said that they made scoring hard for England and built on the pressure.
England has been brilliant on the Day 2 of the Edgbaston Test. After declaring their innings for 393 runs, they kicked started the second day of the game with three maiden overs. They bowled some tight lines and lengths and tested Australian batters.

Ricky Ponting lauded England’s setup to Marnus Labuschagne and said that he was impressed with the way their “outstanding” planning. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said:
“I was very impressed. Their planning looked outstanding. There was a really good set-up to Labuschagne with a leg gully and a short mid-on, making him think the ball was going to come in only for it to be an out-swinger that he was drawn into playing at.”

Ricky Ponting further went on to say that England made run-scoring hard for Australia as they weren’t unable to rotate the strike rate. He further explained:
“England have made it really hard for Australia to score, which is in stark contrast to when England were batting. Australia had lots of fielders out at deep-square, deep point and England were able to rotate strike.”
“You could argue that led to Warner’s dismissal. The scoreboard was going nowhere, the pressure built and Warner played a shot he probably wouldn’t have. England have been great.” He concluded.
