Ben Stokes had an exceptional time on the other day during the 3rd Ashes Test. On the very same day, there was another person in the name of Joel Wilson, who was under the pump for various reasons. At the crucial time of play, he failed to judge the decision in the right manner, which made a massive difference to the game and series result. Meanwhile, the officials have swapped the umpires with new umpires for the remaining games.

A review showed Ben Stokes was struck in front of the pads, but he was given not out and Australia captain Tim Paine had no reviews left. England won the third Ashes Test by one wicket to level the five-match series 1-1.

Marais Erasmus to take the charge:

Wilson’s performance in the first Test at Edgbaston has also been questioned. Between Wilson and his colleague for the match, Aleem Dar, they equalled the number of decisions overturned in a Test match — eight. It has been a similar story throughout the first three Tests. Of the 50 decisions sent to the third umpire, 19 were overturned.

For the same, the International Cricket Council has swapped the umpires with Marais Erasmus and Ruchira Palliyaguruge for the remaining games of the high-profile series. The umpiring howlers have become a common sight in the recent past even after putting the technology for full use.

Recently, the former England cricketer Michael Vaughan quoted that Wilson should have given Ben Stokes out when Nathan Lyon struck him on the pad with England still needing one run to tie the match and two to win and not just because he was out. The former Test opener argued Wilson should have been aware Australia was out of reviews and relied upon Stokes correcting his call if he was wrong.

Meanwhile, the coach Justin Langer and captain Tim Paine refused to blame umpire Joel Wilson for his blunder in the thrilling final stages of the Headingley Test, when Ben Stokes was given not out of a Nathan Lyon delivery, with both men saying Australia needs to improve their use of the Decision Review System (DRS).
