Ashes 2017-18: Shane Warne believes Australia has a lot to prove in England

As the Ashes 2017-18 campaign is nearing to culminate with the fifth Test in Sydney legendary leg-spinner, Shane Warne observed his national side has thoroughly dominated England while hinting the Joe Root-led side can succeed at home.
“The next Ashes is 18 months away, and a lot can happen between now and then. We also don’t want to get carried away with one good series in Australia,” Warne wrote for the News Corp.
While reflecting on the current series, England has given some fight back and will take a lot of positives from the series Down Under before facing the Steven Smith-led Australia in Ashes campaign in 2019.
“Australia has X-factor players too, who can change a game,” Warne added.
However, the 48-year-old Victoria-born Shane Warne observed the host is looking in a pretty good stead while remarking the off-color visitors are supposed to work on the major overhauling of the team, as the Three Lions had already lost the series in Perth (3-0).
“But these Tests have shown that right now the Australian squad is in better shape than England’s and there are a lot less question marks and gaps to fill in their team,” Warne further added.
It’s pertinent to mention that England have shown some fight since the Melbourne Test.
England has shown guts to give Australia a tough time, but the hosts were equally at task to make things difficult for the visitors in first three Tests.
Warne is equally aware of the fact that Australia is yet to register a win post-2001 as the former premium spinner has this thing in mind.
“That’s a big statement to make, given Australia hasn’t won in England since 2001, and not one I would have made with any great confidence at the start of this series,” Warne added on his column.
Interestingly, Warne set the probability when reiterating he would have backed Australia to win the series in England if current Kangaroos team would have been jetting off to the United Kingdom in the meantime.
“If a plane was flying to England tomorrow with the current Test squads on board for an Ashes series in the UK, I’d back Australia to win,” Warne further wrote.
Moreover, Warne is confident to see Australia winning in England with the current players being in form, and he further added the bowlers have been in the prime form who can bag wickets in both the innings
“It’s an attack that can certainly take 20 wickets in England. I think Australia would still win in England. The Aussie attack has pace, variety, spin and those bowlers can bowl in any conditions, on any surfaces,” Warne explained.
Warne in his 145 Test had bagged 708 Test wickets at an average of 25.41. He has bagged 37 five-wicket haul and 48 four-wicket haul during his career between 1992 and 2007.
