For Australian, Marsh brothers Shaun Marsh and Mitchell Marsh are ecstatic after registering the landmark on the fourth day of the ongoing Ashes Test series in Sydney, as both cherished their centuries which further saw the younger brother revealing it was an anxious moment for him.
“We both had a pretty rough night’s sleep last night. Me, because I couldn’t get off strike in the last over and Shaun because he was on 98, I’m guessing,” Mitchell said in a post-day press conference at SCG.
Just seven months before who would have thought to see Shaun and Mitchell representing Australia in the ongoing Magellan Ashes 2017-18 series when the former was scrapped of the contracted players’ list and the latter was recovering from the shoulder injury which further saw both brothers on the road to redemption.
Both went on to register two centuries each during the ongoing Ashes campaign which saw them playing a significant role at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on day four following the promising shown which already saw hosts regaining the Urn in Perth.
So much so, Mitchell struck through covers before Shaun couldn’t get excitement which subsequently saw him embracing Mitchell in the mid-pitch before the ball was still considered to be live.
“Emotions sort of got the better of me and I just wanted to give him a hug,” Shaun told after E<!---->n<!---->g<!---->l<!---->a<!---->n<!---->d<!----> <!---->f<!---->i<!---->n<!---->i<!---->s<!---->h<!---->e<!---->d<!----> <!---->t<!---->h<!---->e<!----> <!---->d<!---->a<!---->y<!----> <!---->w<!---->i<!---->t<!---->h<!----> <!---->9<!---->3<!----> <!---->f<!---->o<!---->r<!----> <!---->f<!---->o<!---->u<!---->r<!----> <!---->a<!---->n<!---->d<!----> <!---->a<!---->r<!---->e<!----> <!---->t<!---->r<!---->a<!---->i<!---->l<!---->i<!---->n<!---->g<!----> <!---->b<!---->y<!----> <!---->2<!---->1<!---->0<!----> <!---->r<!---->u<!---->n<!---->s.
The perfect Sunday for Marsh family, Shaun was the first to register his hundred which further saw him embracing Mitchell before acknowledging the Sydney crowd.
“I saw him starting to celebrate and sort of lost all concept of where the ball was and what was happening with the ball,” Shaun added.
Moreover, skipper Steven Smith in the dressing was on his feet alongside team members and management which sent him into a sort of a scare when the funniest moment was caught on the camera during the live broadcast.
Interestingly, the elder brother Shaun had admitted the fault when Mitchell scampered for a single while being on 99 which saw the former opting for a brotherly catch-up and could have eventually turned into a devastating dismissal after the hilarious celebration attempt.
“That was my fault. He sort of pushed me off and said ‘you better get to the other end’. Thankfully it all worked out well. I was just very happy for him,” Marsh further added.
In the recent past, Shaun and Marsh have been criticized for their approach in the past, but the transformation both have shown on the field has been a commendable job of late.
“I was really nervous today, it’s something we’ll look back on in a few years and really cherish it,” Mitchell explained.
However, Mitchell, who scored 101off 141 deliveries which saw him striking 15 fours and two sixes remarked there was a little misunderstanding when he was about to complete his second Test hundred of his Test career.
“I went for the high five, and Shaun went for the hug and we somewhere just parked in the middle and had a quick split second of panic and then hugged against after that,” Mitchell said in response following Smith’s concern from the dressing room.
The 34-year-old Shaun has been on song which saw him registering unbeaten 126 in the pink ball Test in Adelaide before registering 156 off 291 in Sydney and Mitchell has left a significant impact.
