Former England skipper Michael Vaughan’s ‘Freak-Category’ has a new addition to it, and the latest entrant to the list is none other than Australia skipper Steven Smith.

Vaughan constantly calls India skipper Virat Kohli a ‘freak’ for his exceptional batting exploits and has now given the same title to Smith.

The Australia star, who is the number one Test batsman in the world for quite some time now, has once again proved his mettle with some scintillating performance in the ongoing Ashes. The right-handed batsman played a decisive knock of 141 not out to lead Australia to a thumping ten-wicket victory in the Ashes-opener in Brisbane and had a sublime hundred in the ongoing Test as well.

On Friday (December 15), Australia had lost David Warner and Cameron Bancroft early in response to England’s 403 in the first innings before Smith led the hosts’ charge, helping them to close the day on a commanding 202 for three. And with the Australia batsman registering his 22nd Test century, Vaughan believes the 28-year old has joined Kohli in the freak category.

“Just having a glass of vino I have decided Steve Smith has joined @imVkohli in the Freak Category … an incredible player,” Vaughan wrote on Twitter.

Both Smith and Kohli are having a remarkable 2017. While Smith has proved himself with a scintillating batting display in the Test series in India and the ongoing Ashes, Kohli has perhaps done even better. The India skipper, who recently became the second leading centurion in One-Day Internationals, scored consecutive double centuries in the Test series against Sri Lanka, and now has the most double tons as a Test captain (6). Kohli is also the number one batsman in ODIs and T20Is, and is number two in Tests behind Smith.
