The report adds that he has already been signed up for the season, but the franchise and Nehra are yet to make an official announcement.

Ashish Nehra, who played his last international game on November 1, had already stated that he would look up to coaching contracts in IPL as he will not plying any form of cricket now, which includes IPL.

Since his comeback to the team in the year 2016 till his last day in international cricket, Nehra was a senior bowler cum mentor for the young pacers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and others and his experience would come handy in the RCB camp as well.

Also, RCB was looking for a person in their bowling department as Bharat Arun had to leave his job at IPL after being appointed as the bowling coach of Indian cricket team. As per the rules of BCCI laid down in 2017, no coach of any BCCI team is allowed to provide his services to any other team at any level. Rahul Dravid also gave up his job at Delhi Daredevils after the rule was being introduced.

As a result of it, RCB needed someone to replace him, and they inked in on Nehra who had said that he would also look up to coaching the Indian team as well but not until 2019, the time till current coaching panel has been appointed.

Nehra played a total of 17 Tests, 120 ODIs and 27 T20Is. He had a privilege to bid adieu to the game at his home ground in Delhi, an honour which was given to the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar.

In the upcoming season of IPL, a franchise is allowed to retain a total of five players and Virat Kohli will be an obvious choice for RCB. The camaraderie between Kohli and Nehra would be interesting to see as they share a good report right from the days when Kohli made his debut for Delhi in Ranji Trophy.

The auction for the next season will take place either in last week of January or the first week of February and the T20 league will start in the first week of April.
