Team India showed nerves to lift their seventh Asia Cup title beating neighbours Bangladesh by three wickets in a close encounter that witnessed topsy-turvy turns at the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Meanwhile, India managed to stage a terrific comeback with the ball to bowl out Bangladesh for 222 after the Liton Das show. The major contributor in a 120-run opening stand, Liton remained till the 41st over during his 117-ball 121. But a flurry of wickets in the middle overs, which resulted in losing five wickets for 31 runs, had a detrimental effect on Bangladesh’s innings which started with a lot of promise only to eventually fall flat.

Despite not picking up a wicket in the first 20 overs, the spinners were instrumental in helping India pull it back. They shared six wickets between them as Bangladesh could only manage 106 in the last 28.3 overs. Moreover, they lost all their wickets during that same period.

Kedar Jadhav provided the first breakthrough dismissing Mehidy Hasan, whom Bangladesh promoted to open. Since then he bagged one more while Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with three to break the backbone of the opponents batting.

India, however, started the chase on a high smashing back to back boundaries. Both smashed two fours apiece and Rohit Sharma struck a six before Nazmul Islam removed Shikhar Dhawan against the run of play. Trying to recover from that, Mashrafe Mortaza struck to claim his 250th ODI wickets removing inform Ambati Rayudu.

A steady partnership between Rohit and Dinesh Karthik led India’s recovery path but lost their skipper against the run of play. Rohit failed to clear Namul Islam while attempting to play a pool shot to leave India at 83 for 3. Just when things looked in favour of the men in blues, Mahmudullah struck to remove set Karthik to halt India’s free run-flow.

Furthermore, to add to their dismay, MS Dhoni departed at a crucial juncture adding 36 runs while they lost Kedar Jadhav due to injury. Since then Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar shared a match-defining partnership to the score close to the target before the game witnessed another shift in momentum.

However, Kedar Jadhav returned to the field to hand India an important victory in the last ball of the match.
