How cool it was to see Rohit Sharma in the role of skipper for team India in Asia Cup 2018? He simply dealt the odds against the Asian teams and shouldered India to clinch the coveted trophy for the record seventh time. However, Kapil Dev quoted he isn’t surprised with Rohit Sharma, as the captaincy is not a new role for him.

The classy stroke-maker has been the tremendous captain in the Indian Premier League with great success. He also led the team in Nidahas Trophy 2018 and a bilateral series against Sri Lanka as well.

Rohit Sharma knows what to do and what not to – Kapil Dev

The former Haryana all-rounder, who led the Indian team to the first-ever ICC World Cup trophy feels Rohit Sharma is quite a good skipper for India. However, he thinks Rohit is vastly experienced because of his IPL captaincy.

Further, he also gave his voice on Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is always there to help the skipper in the tough times. All in all, Kapil Dev believes Rohit Sharma is captaincy material.

“He has been captaining for the last six years in the Indian Premier League and so he knows what to do and what not to do. Captaincy is not new to him. Today, the unit is so good that there isn’t much pressure on the captain,” Kapil Dev quoted.

”Moreover, he has (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni behind him. It is so much of an advantage for Rohit. Dhoni can always help him out,” he added while speaking to the Gulf News in the sidelines.

Rohit Sharma – The future captain?

However, as Kapil Dev said, Rohit has always been the captaincy material for India. Although he wasn’t used up to the mark as Virat Kohli often discusses ideas with MS Dhoni during the field.

It is expected that Rohit Sharma will take the reigns from Virat Kohli after the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup. Virat Kohli has already got the workload issues, and the different captains for different formats will be beneficial for the team.
