Asia Cup 2018: Tamim Iqbal to Miss the Tournament; Left Dejected

Bangladesh opening batsman, Tamim Iqbal returned home disappointed after getting ruled out of the ongoing Asia Cup 2018 with the fractured wrist. He got injured during the game number one of the tournament against Sri Lanka.

It is indeed an unfortunate incident not only for Tamim Iqbal but for the whole of Bangladesh. The veteran batsman has been an integral part of the Bangladesh squad. Hence, his absence might cost the side in the later stages of Asia Cup 2018.

“No one knows my disappointment better than me,” Tamim was quoted as saying by reporters before leaving from the UAE. “I had prepared myself for the tournament with high hopes and despite everything not being able to perform is kind of a shock to me. I am really heartbroken.” Tamim said.

The opener has been ruled out of action for the next six weeks which eventually will see him missing the Asia Cup 2018.

Tamim fractured his wrist during the inaugural game of the Asia Cup in the UAE. However, it wasn’t before he batted with a broken wrist later in the innings. It was heartening to see Tamim give his everything for the sake of his nation. He also shared a stand of 32 runs with Mushfiqur Rahim for the final wicket.

“He got two fractures in his hand. Tamim would not be able to continue here and also for the next three to four weeks,” team manager Khaled Mahmud was quoted as saying by the reporters.

Courtesy their victory in the opening match against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh has already qualified for the Super 4’s. It was possible because Afghanistan thrashed the Lankans by 91 runs to stage a major upset in the tournament.

Bangladesh will be eyeing their first Asia Cup title. They lost the final of the tournament on the last two occasions. However, it might be possible this time around.
