As we are just a fortnight away from the commencement of Asia Cup 2018 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to name India’s squad for the mega tournament anytime soon. And there could be a chance that a few of the significant players could get rest.

The 2018 edition of Asia Cup will be played in the One-Day format and will kick-off on September 15th.

However, Asia Cup 2018 was earlier scheduled to take place in India. Following the political trouble between the arch-rivals, Pakistan, the organisers were forced to move it to a neutral venue.

In a bid to seek the participation of Pakistan, the crown of Abu Dhabi proposed the site and asked BCCI and ACC to consider it.

Going with the flow, the Men in Blue will commence the Asia Cup 2018 journey on September 18. They are set to meet with the qualifying side in the second match of the tournament.

With the inclusion of new faces, many players are set to miss the trip to the UAE. The ongoing England tour will be a cannon to decide the selection of players for Asia Cup 2018.

Cricket Addictor presents you top three players who are likely to get rest in Asia Cup 2018 campaign for India.

Shikhar Dhawan:

The three new faces in the Indian cricket team – Prithvi Shaw, Hanuma Vihari and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will be under the microscope.

Indian management and Virat Kohli will be looking anyone especially from the above three to replace Shikhar Dhawan for the Asia Cup 2018.

Though Shikhar Dhawan displayed good performance in ODI games, he wasn’t up to the mark in the other two formats.

However, Dhawan faced an axe in the second Test following his dismal performance in the first Test at Edgbaston. The southpaw, though, returned to the playing XI in the following game.

In the three matches against England, Dhawan could amass only 140 runs, and thus would remain under the scanner for the selection for Asia Cup 2018.

KL Rahul:

KL Rahul is like that naughty kid who will go to school when he had such a mood. He may be set side by side to someone who will be the unstoppable force but only if he runs to a sudden stint.

KL Rahul had a mixed England tour. His English tour is allied with ducks and tons. It seems that he only knows to deal with ducks followed by tons.

However, his consistently inconsistent approach may cost his place in the Asia Cup. His figures in ODI series against England reads as 9*,0, DNB. Rahul has taken part in 12 ODI matches so far and had an average of 32.12

Umesh Yadav:

Umesh Yadav got only two matches to display his skills in three-matches ODI series against England. However, his figures are not impressive as he leaked too many runs that forced Indian skipper to drop him in the third match. He gave 133 runs in two matches while claiming three scalps.

With the comeback of main pace attack in the form of Bhuvneswhar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav is likely to get a rest from Asia Cup 2018 Team India squad.
