England’s limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan feels opening batsman Alex Hales has ‘learned his lesson’ after facing the suspension owing to the disciplinary measure after Bristol street-brawl.
“He’s learned his lesson coming back into the side and being,” Hales told AAP in Melbourne.
The 31-year-old England’s middle-order batsman Morgan believes the explosive batsman Hales has proved himself in the top-flight cricket adding, the chance was provided to the latter while considering his potential.
“(He has been) given another chance to prove his skills are as good and he can play international cricket at a good level,” Morgan maintained.
Known for his big-hitting ability, Hales was named in the English squad for the limited-over series which is beginning with the five-match One-day International series opener on January 14 (Sunday) at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and will culminate with the Eden Park fixture in Auckland on February 21.
Pertinently, Hales was suspended alongside his teammate Ben Stokes after the fracas near one of the nightclubs in Bristol when the latter thrashed a duo which further saw one person namely Ryan Hale received facial injuries.
Morgan further reiterated Hales has been in a better condition to know what went wrong when the infamous matter grabbed the headlines across the international media after the tabloid ‘The Sun’ released the CCTV footage of a brawl.
“Obviously there was an issue around it. He knows what he did was wrong,” Morgan said.
However, the Durham-based 26-year-old all-rounder Stokes did not found his way in the 16-men squad ODI, as his case is being still investigated by Bristol and Everton police after being allegedly charged in the late September (2017), but he has been listed in the T20I squad.
The T20I series will be kicking off on February 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Interestingly, as England won the practice game by five wickets with 54 balls to spare against Cricket Australia XI, Hales went on to smash 55 which further saw him smashing some delightful strokes. As England was playing with full strength, Hales at the other side, saw opening batsman Jason Roy post 48-ball 40 and the former collected 20 runs in the over bowled by Matt Renshaw.
Interestingly, Hales came to bat at a third number and did exceptionally well according to his captain before facing the formidable Australia.
“He wasn’t hesitant at any stage. Coming in at No.3 he did that very well,” Morgan asserted.
While watching him play, Morgan remarked Hales is looking positive in approach and wants him to continue in the 50-over series.
“I thought he (Hales) went really well. I thought he stuck to the mantra of the team to be positive and aggressive when the opportunity arises and he certainly did that today,” Morgan asserted.
Hales would be fighting it out to cement his place which was further was visible when he brought-up his fifty in 32 deliveries, as his innings included four boundaries and three maximums.
Earlier, Hales had already been cleared by the police who further saw England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) selectors shown faith in him.
The incident happened when the Windies was playing the five-match ODI series under the leadership of Jason Holder which further saw Hales missing out on the last two fixtures due to the abrupt suspension.
