AUS vs ENG 2018: Injured Aaron Finch Ruled Out of Adelaide ODI
The beleaguered Australian team has suffered a huge blow ahead of the upcoming fourth One-Day International against England as their in-form opener Aaron Finch has been ruled out of the penultimate game of the series. The 31-year old will be missing the game in Adelaide on Friday due to a minor hamstring strain, Cricket Australia confirmed.
The right-handed batsman will be assessed in the coming days before a decision on his availability for Sunday’s fifth ODI in Perth is made. With Finch ruled out, Australia is likely to recall Travis Head in the playing eleven for the game on Australia Day. Last year, David Warner and Head, who was dropped for the third game in Sydney, had shared a record-breaking opening stand of 284 runs against Pakistan in the Australia Day clash and could reunite exactly a year later.
Cameron White, who was a surprise inclusion in the squad for the series, opens in domestic game but is more than likely to come at No.3 as he did in Sydney.
But whatever combination Australia use for the next clash, they are bound to miss the services of Finch who has been their sole bright spot in an otherwise dismal series with England holding an unbeatable 3-0 lead. Finch scored centuries in each of the first two games and top-scored for Australia again in Sunday’s loss to Sydney, scoring 62. After scoring the series with a sublime 107 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Finch scored 106 in the second game.
Meanwhile, Australia will be desperate to leave the injury setback behind and bounce back in the fourth game to salvage some pride. They have already lost the series, and another loss will only take them closer to a humiliating whitewash at home.
