The newly-appointed Australian coach Justin Langer attested the current Australian team will thrive to be the most professional and honest team in world cricket in the foreseeable future.

Moreover, the squad prepares for their first international assignment after the infamous ball-tampering scandal a couple of months ago at Cape Town in South Africa.

The former Australian opener Langer took over the reigns from Darren Lehmann following his resignation. Ex-captain Steven Smith and vice-captain David Warner were handed a One-year suspension by Cricket Australia (CA).

The other player involved in the scandal, Cameron Bancroft was also handed a 9-month ban.

Reports suggested Lehmann was not aware of the planning of ball-tampering. However, he decided to quit as he felt the team needed a way forward in a totally different manner.

Mind you, Langer was a cricketer who used to chirp most of the time. To make the team play out of their comfort zone won’t be an easy task for Langer but he will be gearing up for the big assignment.

During an interaction with reporters in Brisbane where the team prepares for a five-match One-day International (ODI) series against England, Langer said that the team was aspiring to be the most professional bunch of cricketers and maintain it with dignity and humility.

“It doesn’t matter how much money you have got or how many games or how many runs. If you’re not a good bloke — that’s what people remember,” Langer said he recently told the group. “Our mateship is really important. Sticking together is really important — that’s all of us in the Australian cricket team,” AFP quotes Langer.

The tour of England will be Australia’s first after the scandal. The tour of South Africa was a disastrous one for Australia, to say the least as nothing went according to plan.

The new coach added that he is expected to “cop plenty” from the English media and crowd. However, he added that team will block it out and look to concentrate on the job at hand.

Langer has promised to win back the respect of the Australian public. However, he added that it will take time and it will be measured by how an individual player behaves on the field.

“If we behave well on and off the field, then hopefully we will earn some respect back and some trust back,” he said. “The Australian public obviously loves the Australian cricket team and there is more to it than just being good cricketers,” he added.

Prominent face Justin Langer remarked the team won’t be “mimicking” styles of any other international teams. Rather they will look to improve their one day record.

“We should be so proud in Australia of what we have achieved in our past. We have got our way of doing things and we shouldn’t shy away from that,” he said.

Australia will begin their ODI series against England on 13th June at the Oval in London. Both teams will also play a solitary Twenty20 International.
