England looks like the hot-bed as cricket boards are deciding their ways to resume playing after a brief period of halt due to the pandemic situation. As of now it looks like cricket will resume with the three-Test series between England and the West Indies. The series was originally slated to take place in June but as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had suspended competitive cricket till July 1, the series will take place in July.
Pakistan are also in readiness to send their 25-man squad to England for a ‘bio-secure’ series. Now reports have emerged the Australian cricket board chief executive Kevin Roberts is in discussion with his English counter-part Tom Harrison for a limited-overs series late in September.
There’s some chance we could send a team over: Cricket Australia chief
After cricket boards faced a substantial loss due to the brief half enforced by the novel coronavirus pandemic situation, they are planning for high-profile series’ which can produce maximum revenue. Cricket Australia chief executive Kevin Roberts has asserted that a team could be sent over to England in September.
Roberts, however, said that the board will not force the tournament as safety and security of the players is a foremost concern. He also added the preceding series in England against the West Indies and Pakistan may well show how the management is arranging things in this situation and then decisions can be taken accordingly.
“I think there’s some chance we could send a team over,” Roberts told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph. “Obviously we won’t jeopardise the safety of the players, but the best test of that is the West Indian and Pakistan tours of England before we’re due to tour. We hope they go off without a hitch.”
Australia last played an international match at home against New Zealand in March this year. The three-match ODI series was called off due to the pandemic after Australia took a 1-0 lead.
