England will tour Pakistan for two Twenty20 Internationals in October 2021 after a hiatus of 16 years and the focus has now turned towards the Australian Men’s cricket team after PCB CEO, Wasim Khan while announcing the English tour said the board expects Australia to fulfill its FTP commitment in early 2022.
According to ICC’s Future Tour Programme [FTP], Australia have a scheduled away series against Pakistan in February and March of 2022, comprising of two Tests, three One-day Internationals, and as many T20Is.
“We expect Australia to visit Pakistan for their FTP commitment in early 2022,” Pakistan Cricket Board chief executive Wasim Khan said in a statement while announcing the England tour.
If it indeed happens, then Australia will break their 28-year-hiatus of not touring Pakistan.
Since then, the Aussies have largely played their away series against Pakistan on neutral venues. While a suicide bombing incident in Karachi in 2002 forced the series to take place in Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates, their next away series against Pakistan was played in England, eight years later in 2010.
By then, international cricket had well and truly come to a halt in Pakistan after the Sri Lankan team was attacked by terrorists in Lahore in March 2009.
Since last year, Pakistan has successfully hosted international teams like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe have besides staging the full-fledged season of the recently concluded PSL on home soil. And, if they are able to successfully host England next year, it will give them a massive shot in the arm as far as staging international cricket on a consistent basis on their own soil.
