Arvind Pujara, the father of Cheteshwar Pujara, missed watching his son’s 18th Test hundred, as he got admitted in the hospital. Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara has been the highlight of the four-match Test series. In seven innings, the right-handed batsman has scored 521 runs, including three centuries. Moreover, the India number three has batted for more than 1200 minutes, keeping a price on his wicket every time.

On day one of the fourth Test at the SCG, when Pujara was nearing his 18th Test hundred, his 68-year old father was on his way to the Holy Family Hospital in Bandra. His father’s unusual high heart-rate saw the two, Arvind and Puja, fly from Rajkot for the treatment. However, both were advised by Dr Yash Lokhandwala, a Mumbai-based specialist.

Being his coach from the age of seven, Arvind Pujara hadn’t missed any of his son’s hundred until this one. Though Cheteshwar’s knock has kept India well on course of a win in Sydney, his father revealed he had heard the world has been talking about his son’s hundred. His father, from the hospital, said,

“I have been hearing people praise my son from across the world. It’s very heartening if anybody had any doubt about his batting it’s all cleared. I will go home watch the replays,”

Puja Pujara, the wife of Cheteshwar Pujara, told how the duo was following Pujara’s daddy hundred in Sydney. She said,

“On Day 1 of the Test we had watched him grind it out in the first session at our home at Rajkot. After that we had a flight to catch, once we landed we came to know that he was approaching his 100. That’s when he was smashing the balls and hitting fours. That bit we followed on my phone,”

Moreover, his father also explained that Pujara was aware of the surgery; and only after having a lot chat with the doctor and him, Arvind Pujara proceeded for the treatment.

“Our doctor had called him and told him that it wasn’t wise to delay the procedure. They had a long chat, and once he was convinced we went ahead,”

However, India is in the driver’s seat in the fourth Test. After declaring at 622/7, India has put Australia in the spot of bother. At stumps on day three, the hosts are 236 for six, trailing India by 386 runs.
