The second T20I between India and Australia was abandoned due to rain in Melbourne. India would have been disappointed as they had put a stranglehold on the proceeding as the tourists conceded only 132 runs in 19 overs after electing to bowl first. However, they could not level the series as rain played a spoilsport.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave a perfect start to the visitors as he produced the outside edge of Aaron Finch’s bat.  However, India had two more chances in Kumar’s second over as D’Arcy Short was put down by Pant.

India didn’t let the hosts off the hook.

The tourists let go of another chance when Kumar was able to flummox Chris Lynn with a knuckleball. However, Jasprit Bumrah could not time his jump as he was not aware of the boundary ropes. Thus Lynn was gifted a life when he was on just one run. Although, Lynn could not make the most of it, as he found India’s better fielder, Krunal Pandya who took a good catch at the deep square boundary while running in.

Ahmed was able to provide another breakthrough as Short was not in a position to play the pull shot. The ball found southpaw’s inside edge on to the stumps to give another wicket to Ahmed.

Subsequently, the onus was once again on Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis who had done a fine job for the hosts at the Gabba. However, Jasprit Bumrah was able to make up for his howler in the field as he sent back Marcus Stoinis to push Australia behind the eighth-ball.

Meanwhile, Krunal Pandya who had taken a beating in the previous match bowled a jaffa to get the better of dangerous Glenn Maxwell. India continued to chip in with wickets at regular intervals. However, Nathan Coulter-Nile (18) and Ben McDorment 32 runs were able to get Australia to 132-7. In fact, rain once again didn’t allow India to complete their 20-overs.

Virat Kohli was furious at the umpire when they didn’t take the players off the field after it started to drizzle. The third and final T20I will take place in Sydney on November 21.
