Sledging and being heated up in a high voltage Test game between Australia and India is a usual sight. The ongoing Test at Perth has also witnessed verbal fights between the two camps which have irked former Indian National Cricket Team cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar and he has lashed out at Virat Kohli for on-field behavior after a verbal duel with Tim Paine.

Meanwhile, during the 71st over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli and Tim Paine were seen exchanging words. It had started after the Indian skipper decided to field close to the non-striker. It reached a stage that umpire Chris Gaffaney had to warn both the players to settle down.

Manjrekar lashes out Kohli

“…that last gesture, Virat Kohli coming in the way of Tim Paine, that was completely uncalled for,” Sanjay Manjrekar said while speaking during the lunch-time show on Sony SIX.

Moreover, the former batsman also applauded Kohli for his brilliant effort in the first innings. He slammed his 25th Test century against during the first innings of the second Test against Australia. He also mentioned that the attitude made by the 30-year-old veteran is gaining a lot of criticism.

“Actually, what if Kohli was not a such a great player getting all the runs that he does — some of his antics and behaviour on the field would have created quite a bit of stir and got lot more criticism. It’s just that he is such a champion batsman; people are sort of accepting that.” he added.

Manjrekar reckons Kohli’s reaction to his controversial dismissal in the first innings was uncalled for. He also mentioned that if some low-profile player made the gesture, then he would have surely got a warning from the referee.

“For example, I mentioned Virat Kohli, the brand and that’s why he gets away with a lot of things. Lot of people haven’t talked about his reaction after he was given out [on Sunday]. Any other player – low profile name – I am sure would have got some kind of a warning from the referee,” Sanjay Manjrekar concluded.
