Team India international Shikhar Dhawan has congratulated Virat Kohli & Co as they beat Australia by 31 runs to start the four-match Test series in an emphatic fashion.

Meanwhile, the Aussies put up a brilliant rearguard today, with their final six wickets making India earn every bit of their success. The hosts gave away nothing easily. And through sheer grit and perseverance, right until the last pair, they made the visitors sweat. But credit to India too, for keeping their nerves towards the end when they could’ve easily lost the plot in the face of building tension.

Cheteshwar Pujara was the star of the show as he backed his brilliant hundred in the first innings with a half-century. Ajinkya Rahane also played a good hand as the duo helped India to post a massive target on the board. The bowlers have done pretty well over a lot of time and once again they showed their calibre.

They chipped with equal contributions to provide breakthroughs whenever the Aussies tried to build a partnership. Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah picked six wickets each while Mohammed Shami returned with five wickets.

Congratulations team! What a fantastic start to the series. Our bowlers did great and superb innings by @cheteshwar1 and @ajinkyarahane88 @bcci Way to go! #INDvAUS,” the tweet read.
