The Virat Kohli-Tim Paine saga has stirred major controversies while former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar claims that it was Team India that incited the sledging war. The incident took place on day four of the second Test match of the four-match Test series. However, the umpire was forced to intervene before lunch.

Gavaskar criticised Indian team

Meanwhile, from a certain distance, it looked like it was Indian National Cricket Team skipper Virat Kohli who started the sledging war. However, he was criticised for his unnatural behavior on the field during the Perth Test. Even Sanjay Manjrekar was highly critical about Kohli and noted that he has to be more responsible.

The former Indian cricketer said the Indian team is no saints. Gavaskar also believes that it was Indian team who started the verbal war now and even back in 2014.

“Tim Paine is not in the Indian dressing room… So how does he know Vijay does not like Kohli? These are the kind of things which are called gamesmanship. We have not been saints either. Way back in 2014, when Australia were down with the tragic death of Phillip Hughes, we started it. They were too shocked in the first Test, and we started it.” Sunil Gavaskar told India Today.

Moreover, the 69-year-old also added that it isn’t in our DNA to play cricket like that. He also noted that India will always lose in this kind of situations because they are not used to it.

“In a situation like this, we will always lose. Australia are used to playing like that, we are not. It’s not in our DNA to play cricket like that. You also have to take into account if everyone in the team can take it. Even over here, we have started it,” Sunil Gavaskar concluded.

Australia won the second Test by 146 runs and level the series 1-1 at Perth.
