Australia vs India 2018: Twitter Slams Mohammed Shami after his Irresponsible Batting

India gained a strong grip over the first Test at the end of the fourth day picking four wickets after putting a target of 323 runs against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Meanwhile, India lost their last six wickets in quick succession failing to stretch their lead. Following that, pacer Mohammed Shami faced wraths of the social media, who threw his wicket playing a rash shot.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane had scored fifties to extend India’s advantage in the first session. After a largely luckless session, Lyon bagged the wickets of Pujara for 71 and Rohit Sharma (1) in quick succession. With their contributions helping India get 109 runs in the first session, the visitors went into the break with an overall lead of 275 and threatening to bat Australia out of the game.

Post the break, Rishabh Pant came out swinging against Lyon, hitting him for three fours and a six off consecutive deliveries. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ishant Sharma succumbed to short-pitched deliveries from Mitchell Starc while Rahane was Lyon’s fifth victim.
However, Mohammed Shami came dancing down the track on his very first ball to smack Nathan Layin for a six. But he was nowhere close to the ball, still went through with the swipe and found deep mid-wicket to perfection.
This didn’t go well with the fans and they lashed out to him on social media as Shami has made a habit of swinging the bat without even watching the ball.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions following Mohammed Shami’s wayward batting:

In his brief Test career, Bumrah has done enough to merit promotion from No.11, especially if No.10 is Shami. #AUSvIND

Honest question: does Shami swing the bat more than the ball? #AUSvIND

Shami is such a jackass with the bat, I swear. Even in the England series, noticed the same thing. Bumrah, probably the least accomplished batsmen amongst our bowlers, shows more application than him.

Shami should always bat at 11.

Indian cricket team @BCCI needs a minimum batting bar that everyone should clear before selection, like the Yo-Yo test for fitness. Shami just doesn't know how to bat. #cricket #AdelaideTest #AUSvsIND

For all the talent Shami has, his lack of interest in the field and while he's batting is super frustrating!!#INDvAUS #AUSvIND

Shami shouldn't be batting anywhere before #11 for us. Doesn't really put a price on his wicket like other lower order batsmen. #AUSvIND
