Yet again a former Australia bowler comes up with a suggestion to bowl specific lengths against Virat Kohli. This time, it is Ryan Harris, who delivered the goods on a regular basis during his times. Meanwhile, he has got some decent plans for India’s run-machine and wants the Australians to perform with the utmost confidence.
However, Virat Kohli has always given his against the Australians. He dominated the things in Australia more than any other batsman in the current crop of cricketers. He also got the knack of getting under the bowlers’ skin with his words as well.
Get Virat Kohli to drive the ball – Ryan Harris
Ryan Harris feels the Indian skipper is a nervous starter when he gets to the crease. He wants Australian bowlers to get him out in the initial phase of innings by hitting the right areas without fail.
Further, he quoted Virat Kohli has got ego and confidence in him to deliver the things on a grand stage. Speaking of the plan, he wants the bowlers to bowl driving length and hope for him to commit a mistake.
”Virat early on is a nervous starter, so you need to really get it up there and get him driving. What he does like is the width, so you can’t be too wide. He looks for that good shot to get him away to give him that confidence. We’ve just got to make sure we challenge him early and hope he makes a mistake. Virat likes to dominate, has a big ego. And that is why he is so good: he has that ego, he has that confidence in what he wants to do,” Ryan Harris quoted.
”My goal early on, especially on the quicker wickets, was always to get the batsman driving. It did not matter whether it was Virat Kohli or Joe Root; I wanted the batsman to be tempted to drive. That would be the plan I reckon even the current lot of Australian fast bowlers will have against him. They also have a little more pace than I had, which can come handy with that plan,” he added while speaking to ESPN Cricinfo.
Well, as Ryan Harris said, Australian bowlers need to deliver with utmost confidence against Virat Kohli. However, all the answers will get revealed when the first Test gets underway in Adelaide on coming Thursday.
