India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane took a blinder of a catch to remove Australia’s greenhorn batsman Manus Labuschagne. Rahane dived to his right to take a fine catch at short mid-wicket. In fact, it was brilliant captaincy from the Indian captain Virat Kohli. Kohli moved himself to short mid-on and placed Rahane at short mid-wicket just before the dismissal.

Marnus Labuschagne had played a straight drive down the wicket and thus Kohli placed himself at short mid-on in front of the non-striker. Mohammed Shami was getting the ball to reverse and it was perfect field placement from the Indian captain.

Brilliant catch from Virat Kohli.

Meanwhile, Marnus Labuschagne was looking solid in his defence. In fact, the right-hander showed the right technique to keep the Indian bowlers at bay. He was scoring his runs at a snail’s pace, however, he was not beaten on a lot of occasions.

Thus, the rookie batsman would have been disappointed as he had got off to a start. Consequently, Australia has their backs against the wall as they have lost four wickets for 186 runs. The hosts still trail by 434 tuns and would have to bat out of their skins to stay in the match.

The Sydney pitch is still good for batting and Peter Handscomb, as well as Travis Head, will need to rescue their team out of the troubled waters. Meanwhile, India had posted a massive total of 622 runs in the first innings.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant scored big hundreds to get India into a dominating position. Pujara scored 193 whereas Pant scored an unbeaten knock of 159 runs. Furthermore, Mayank Agarwal and Ravindra Jadeja scored half-centuries for the visitors.
