Australia vs India 2018: Winning After Being 41-4 in First Innings, is Special - Virender Sehwag

India had their backs against the wall when they tottering for 41-4 in the first innings of the first Test match. Subsequently, India was rescued by Cheteshwar Pujara who scored 194 runs in the match. Thus, Pujara was the real difference between the two sides. Consequently, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag believes it was a special effort from the Indian team to win after being behind the eighth-ball.

India was successful in clinching the nail-biter as they won the first Test match by 31 runs. However, the Indian bowlers had to sweat hard for their win as the Australian tail was able to wag. Hence, Sehwag said it was a great fight from the Australian lower order batsmen to keep themselves in the game.

Nathan Lyon scored 38 to help Australia inch closer to the Indian target of 323 runs. Pat Cummins had earlier scored 28 runs from 121 balls whereas Mitchell Starc also scored 28 in no time.

Sehwag also lauded the great effort of the Indian bowlers who were once again right on the money. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami scalped three wickets each in the second innings. Therefore, it was a collective team effort from the Indian team bowlers.

Cheteshwar Pujara was the star of the show for the tourists and also bagged the Man of the match award. Pujara scored a fighting 123 to help India come out of the troubled waters. Subsequently, he batted with the same mindset in the second essay as he played another imperative knock of 70 runs.

Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the first Test match. Sehwag post read as “Test Cricket is Best Cricket. Great fight by Australia in the end but India were too good. Winning after being 41-4 in first innings is a special effort. Outstanding Test match for Pujara and great effort from our bowlers. Promises to be a great series #AusvInd”.
