Though it was a debut game for Mayank Agarwal for India, he has shown great maturity in standing at the crease. He added a brilliant partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara to avoid any early hiccups for the team. Meanwhile, attending the press conference, Mayank quoted that he would take that 76 on any day.

Earlier in the day, Mayank Agarwal became the first Indian opener to make his debut at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Boxing Day in the ongoing third Test against Australia on Wednesday. He is India’s 295th player to debut in Test cricket as he got the cap just a few minutes before the match started at the MCG.

Marking the occasion, the batsman scored a half-century in his debut innings and became the highest run scorer on debut in Australia. Unfortunately, he was dismissed at the stroke of Tea on 76 as he nudged a delivery down the leg side to Tim Paine behind the stumps.

They bowled extremely well – Mayank Agarwal

Speaking of the day 1 of the Boxing day Test, Mayank Agarwal quoted that Australians bowled really tight lines to put Indians on the back foot. But, he feels that their batsmen were smart in their approach to stay positive at the crease.

Speaking of his own performance, Agarwal added that he would like to take that score on any day. Further, he added that it would have been good if continued throughout the day but he is satisfied to get something rather than nothing.

“I’m happy, I would definitely take a 76 rather than something less than that. Saying that, I would have liked to have gone on and been there at the end of the day,” said Agarwal. Honestly, I thought they bowled extremely well and didn’t give us many loose balls. They kept it tight and they were attacking,” he added. We need to now try and post up a big score. The bigger the score the more pressure we can put on them.”

Well, it was quite a day for Mayank Agarwal to remember in his cricketing career. Not only he received his debut cap but also followed it up with a beautiful knock to give India a strong foundation to secure the victory.
