Well, the regular headliner once again makes headlines. Confused? Well, it is Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper and also the run-machine bagged yet another glorious record to his name. He surpassed Rahul Dravid’s stunning 16-year-old record of most runs scored by an Indian batsman in the overseas Tests in a calendar year.

On Thursday, Kohli surpassed Rahul Dravid’s 1137 runs in overseas Tests back in 2002 by scoring 1138 runs and counting in 2018. With 259 runs so far in the five innings in Australia, Kohli went past Dravid to top the list of most overseas Test runs by an Indian in a calendar year.

Virat Kohli missed out on a hundred as he was caught by Aaron Finch at third man off Mitchell Starc on 82. It was the third time the Indian skipper has been dismissed by his former RCB teammate Starc and all of them have been in three different series.

Apart from Kohli and Dravid, Mohinder Amarnath scored 1065 runs in 1983 while Sunil Gavaskar had scored 918 runs in 1971 to make the top four in the list.

In another story, for the first time in history, Indian skipper Virat Kohli failed to convert a first-innings half-century into a hundred as he was dismissed by Mitchell Starc for 82 runs on Day 2 of the third Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Virat Kohli is on verge of breaking various records:

In the overall list, Virat Kohli is behind Graeme Smith (1212 in 2018) and Viv Richards (1154 in 1976). The Indian skipper has another opportunity to go past former South African skipper as he would come out to bat in the second innings of the third Test at MCG.

By scoring 99 runs in the second innings, Kohli would also become the highest run-getter in a year across formats. The record is presently being held by former Australian captain Ricky Ponting who had scored 2833 runs in 2005. Kohli, presently, is on 2735 runs.
