Azhar Ali's Triple Century Bat Bought By A Pune-Based Museum For PKR 1 Million

The proliferation of the global pandemic coronavirus [COVID-19] has caused a great amount of havoc on the entire world. And, in the wake of the situation, several relief funds have been created in order to raise money to help the economically distressed section of the society.

Public figures from all walks of life have come forward to do their bit by donating as well as raising money via auctions. Cricketers from all around the world have joined the cause. And, the latest to join the bandwagon is the captain of the Pakistan Test team Azhar Ali.

Azhar Ali had put up two of his most prized possesions- the bat with which he scored a triple-hundred against West Indies in 2016 and his 2017 Champions Trophy jersey- for auction on April 28, 2020. The Pakistan opener had set the base price of both the items at PKR 1 million, which has now cumulatively managed to fetch PKR 2.2 million

“I put two of my closest belongings on auction with a base price of 1 million PKR each to support people suffering due to the ongoing crisis. Auction starts now and will close on 11:59 PM 05 May 2020,” Azhar Ali had tweeted.

“The shirt is from 2017 Champions Trophy which we won, it has the signature of all the players which were present in the squad. Both these things are close to my heart but if it can be used in the difficult times for the benefit of the people I will more than happy.”

A Pune-based Cricket museum buys Azhar Ali’s bat

In October 2016, Azhar Ali had become the first batsmen to score a triple hundred in a Day-Night Test [vs West Indies in the United Arab Emirates]. The bat has now been bought by a cricket-based museum- Blades of Glory Cricket- in Pune for an amount of PKR 1 million [Rs 474,520.75].

As for the jersey, it has been bought by a Pakistani based out in California. Another Pakistani who goes by the name of Jamal Khan has donated PKR 100,000 [Rs 47,294. 83].

Before Azhar Ali, the likes of Jos Buttler [World Cup 2019 final shirt], KL Rahul [2019 WC bat and other accessories] and Mushfiqur Rahim, who auctioned off the bat with which he scored his maiden double-hundred, Wasim Akram, Akbar Ali, Herschelle Gibbs, Darren Gough, and many others have come forward to raise money by putting some of their valuable possessions under the hammer.
