Bangladesh interim coach Courtney Walsh on Thursday said that the bowlers haven’t really brought consistency to their bowling. He expects his bowlers to show their consistency in the must-win clash against Sri Lanka in the Nidahas Trophy. The winner of the match will meet India in the final of the tournament.
Bangladesh has won just one match against Sri Lanka and need to win the final clash to book a place in the final of the tournament.
“The bowlers have not bowled consistently as we would have liked but that does not mean they are bad bowlers overnight,” Walsh told reporters in Colombo.
“The improvement is coming but probably not quick as we would have liked. It is different conditions and they are trying to get it right,” he further added.
Walsh hoped that Mustafizur gets back to his best. He added that he has shown signs of getting back to rhythm in the Pakistan Super League. Walsh has been working with the Bangla bowlers since 2016. He was assigned the coach for the tri-series in Sri Lanka. Walsh further added that the Bangladesh coaching staff needs to improve.
“There is a lot of planning behind the scenes as to how we want to play and approach. We need to convince the players as to what we think is the best. At the end of the day, the players and the coaching staff know what is the best for Bangladesh cricket.”
Hathursingha meanwhile said that Sri Lanka who won their opening clash against India wont get bogged down under pressure.
“It’s a very crucial game, but we’re preparing as normal. The advantage we had is that we played them recently,” he said.
“We know a lot about them and they know a lot about us as well. There’s nothing that both things can do as far as surprises go,” he added.
