Scoring a century in an international match is the ultimate goal for the batsmen that play the game. What adds to the cherry on the cake is the fact if they score it in a special game. Since the inception of ODI cricket, there have been numerous batsmen who have scored centuries in international cricket.

However, there have been some batsmen who have achieved this feat on a special day. Today, we take a look at the batsmen who have scored a tin in the 100th ODI match.

Sir Gordon Greenidge is a former West Indian batsman who has played a total of 128 ODIs for Windies. He scored a century in his 100th ODI match when the Windies took on Pakistan in the year 1988.

However, his century could not save the West Indies from facing a defeat.

Batting first, Pakistan put up a total of 294 runs on the scoreboard. Chasing the target Windies could only manage 210 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 50 overs.

Greenidge remained unbeaten on 102 runs from 154 deliveries which included five boundaries.

Chris Cairns

Chris Cairns is a former Kiwi batsman who has played a total of 215 ODIs for the BlackCaps. He is one of the few batsmen in world cricket to have smashed a ton in his 100th ODI.

Kiwis cricketer achieved this feat at Christchurch against India in the year 1999.

Batting first, New Zealand put up a gigantic total of 300 runs in their 50 overs. Cairns scored 115 runs in just 80 balls. His innings included 7 boundaries and 7 6s.

The century came in a winning cause as India could manage only 230 runs and were bowled out in 45.3 overs.

Mohammad Yousuf is third on the list of batsmen with a century in their 100th ODI. Yousuf achieved this feat against Sri Lanka in the year 2002 at Sharjah. He is a legend of the Pakistan cricket team and has played close to 300 games scoring almost 10000 runs in the process.

Yousuf’s ton came in a winning cause as Pakistan beat Sri Lanka comprehensively by a margin of 217 runs in that match.

Batting first, Pakistan scored a total of 295/6 in their 50 overs. Yousuf smashed a blistering century as he scored 129 runs in 131 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes. Sri Lanka bundled up for 78 runs.

Kumar Sangakkara

Kumar Sangakkara is a former Sri Lankan legend who has been a gem for world cricket. He has played a whopping 404 ODI matches and scored more than 14000 runs in the format. Sangakkara joined this elite club in the year 2004 when he racked up a ton against the mighty Australians.

However, Sri Lanka lost that game. Australia batted first and put up 233 runs on the scoreboard.

Chasing the target, Sri Lanka could only manage 193 runs. Sangakkara scored 101 runs off 110 balls with 15 boundaries.

Chris Gayle, the West Indian explosive opener, is fifth on the list. Gayle has played a total of 301 ODIs for the Caribbean side and has been one of the most destructive batsmen ever to grace the field of cricket. Gayle achieved this feat against England at Lord’s in 2004.

Batting first, England put up 285 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of seven wickets in their 50 overs.

Chasing the target, the Windies crossed the finishing line with five balls to spare. Gayle smashed 132 runs off 165 balls with 12 boundaries and a six.

Marcus Trescothick is a former English batsman. He played 123 ODIs for England scoring 4335 runs with12 centuries in the format. He scored a hundred in his 100th ODI match. The game was played between England and Bangladesh at The Oval in 2005.

Bangladesh batted first and could score only 190 runs.

In response, England chased the target in 24.5 overs with all the 10 wickets in hand. Trescothick scored 100 runs off 76 balls which included 16 boundaries.

Ramnaresh Sarwan

Another West Indian in the list, Ramnaresh Sarwan has been a legendary figure in the country. He has played close to 200 ODI games and scored almost 6000 ODI runs. He scored a century in his 100th ODI against India at Basseterre in 2006.

His knock helped Windies attain a nail-biting finish to a thrilling encounter.

India batted first and managed 245 runs in their 50 overs. Chasing the target, West Indies crossed the finishing line with just one ball to spare.

Sarwan remained not out on 115 runs off 119 balls. he smashed 10 boundaries and 2 sixes in the process.

David Warner is the first Australian batsman to have scored a century in his 100th ODI match. Warner achieved this feat against India at Bangalore in the year 2017. Till now, Warner has played more than 100 ODI games for Australia and has scored more than 5000 runs in the format.

The visitors batted first on the flat pitch of Bangalore and smashed 334 runs in their 50 overs. Warner smashed 124 runs off just 119 balls. His innings included 12 boundaries and four sixes.

India came pretty close to the target but couldn’t achieve it as they could manage only 313 runs in their 50 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan is the first among the various legendary batsmen that India produced to hit a century in his 100th ODI match. He did it against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2018. Dhawan has played a total of 136 ODIs so far scoring more than 5500 runs in the process.

He did the unthinkable against the Proteas. However, his efforts went in vain as India could not win the game. Batting first, India posted 289 runs on the scoreboard.

However, ran played a spoilsport in the second innings and the Proteas were given a target of 205 runs to chase in 28 overs. They did it in 25.3 overs and won the game comprehensively by five wickets as per the D/L method.
