The Big Bash League (BBL) 2018/19 is underway, and we have already seen some bizarre stuff happening on the field. Perth Scorchers batsman, Ashton Turner was awarded a six for hitting the stadium’s roof while playing against Melbourne Renegades.

It was only the first delivery of the twelfth over from Daniel Chrisitan. Ashton Turner was ready for the shot, and he hits a massive one. It was a big top edge, and the ball went straight up and hit the roof of the stadium. The umpire signalled it as a six despite the ball landing just outside the 30-yard circle.

Here is the video of the incident –

Moreover, it was a low-scoring match, as the Scorchers were all out for 103 in 19 overs. Michael Klinger was the top-scorer scoring 28 runs off 32 deliveries with the help of four boundaries.

While chasing down the target, Renegades lost their four wickets within four overs. Also, Sam Harper (36), Mohammad Nabi (35) held on to their nerves and were able to guide the team to win.

Furthermore, Ashton Turner witnessed for something new for the first time in T20 cricket. The Marvel Stadium in Melbourne witnessed an incident that even left the commentators – Shane Warne and Brett Lee – perplexed, as they couldn’t help but question the call of the batsman being awarded six runs for hitting the roof.

Turner later said he was lucky but also made it clear that the rule should get changed.

“I think it’s a pretty bad rule. It saved me tonight … I think it’s not fair. It should be a dead ball – you can’t predict whether they’re going to catch it, so there’s no fairer outcome than a dead ball.” Ashton Turner told cricket.com.au. “It’s a little bit different if you think it might have hit the roof over the boundary rope (but) it might be hard to detect where it’s actually (going to land) and if it’s going to go for six,” he added.
