BCCI Accepts Dinesh Karthik's Unconditional Apology For CPL Appearance

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has accepted the unconditional apology from veteran wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik. Meanwhile, BCCI issued a showcause notice to Karthik after he violated a clause of his central contract.

The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer recently landed himself in trouble after watching a Caribbean Premier League match from the participating team’s dressing room. Dinesh Karthik was spotted having a chat with Trinbago Knight Riders’ head coach, Brendon McCullum in their dressing room.

Notably, Dinesh Karthik is the skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. The Red Chilies Entertainment and Knight Riders Sports Pvt, who own Kolkata in the IPL also own Trinbago in the Caribbean Premier League.

Karthik after getting a showcause notice from BCCI cleared his position in an apology letter. He stated that he was there on the invitation of KKR’s newly appointed head coach Brendon McCullum. Dinesh Karthik also stated that he has not participated in anything in any capacity during his stay.

According to a report in PTI, a BCCI official revealed the apex body has accepted the apology and the matter stands closed now.

“The BCCI has accepted Dinesh Karthik’s apology and the matter is now a closed chapter,” a Board official told PTI.

As per Dinesh Karthik’s central contract, the cricketer cannot associate himself with any private league. He also should have taken permission from BCCI before attending the match in the CPL. Meanwhile, Karthik has been out of the India squad after the World Cup owing to poor performances. He has played 26 Tests and 94 ODIs for India.
